It was 3:30am when I got out of bed. It was cold and a bit foggy. I stumbled around my apartment as I got my backpack together. My plane left at 5:45am. Needless to say I slept for most of the flight. I was actually worried that I missed my chance to get off and instead of being in Florida, I’d end up in St. Lucia. I made it to Miami and even from inside the terminal I could feel the sunshine. I was so excited to experience warmth again especially after a few arctic New York mornings.
I had a full day of Budokon, which is a system that incorporates martial arts, yoga and a positive lifestyle into a philosophy on life. Its interesting stuff and I appreciate the message. I also enjoy the martial arts section of it, but after 8 hours of working out, an early morning and a busy week, I’m going to sleep good.

Believe it or not I didn’t forget my blog last night. The Internet was being screwy and even after finagling with it for a while, it just didn’t want to be sent. I took that as a sign that maybe I should go to bed and simply mess with it later. I didn’t really have anything poignant to say last night anyway. Just like today, I was feeling active versus introspective. Instead of being stuck in my head, I wanted to let go a bit. My head spins at the speed of light most of the time but lately it’s been better for me not to let it continue. With that in mind I finally went to MoMa (The modern museum of modern art).
I love art but sometimes I find I have an issue with how seriously artists and take it. The pretense and the elite-ness of the art simply goes away when you allow yourself to see it for what it is. Art then becomes what you want. Some of the stuff was wacky but then other pieces caused my inner dialog, my inner rage, passion, or imagination to sore. That’s what art is for.
Without letting myself stew in my thought I just let them all run through me. It was a great experience and one I will explore again as my weekend draws closer.
Tomorrow I leave for Florida. I am going to study Budokon and bring it back with me. Curious??…

It was a beautiful day. Even the night was mild and welcoming. Nothing about the day was winter-esque. I needed a little me time so I decided to go for a walk. It was just that type of night. After my last client I walked my city. I love New York! I eventually found myself in the part of town that every building moves with colored lights and no matter what time of day it is, it’s day time. And I loved that too! Even amongst the weirdos I felt comfortable and home.

Eventually my hands did start to freeze off my body, so I walked into an organic coffee shop where I had the best hot chocolate I think I have ever had in my life! Had I not taken a walk tonight I never would have tried it.

I have to admit its a goofy decision to take a walk into a part of town that I avoid on purpose on a regular basis but tonight it felt right to be there. As I sat looking out the window as new York passed by. I thought about how big new York was and how many people fill it. Then I thought about the people who are in my own slice of New York and the rest of the world and how lucky I have been and am to have been graced by their presence.

Today was another soggy day. After getting hit in the eye with an umbrella and getting my feet sopping wet from a New York river(gutter puddle) I decided to indulge in a Godiva truffle.

It’s perfectly ok to indulge in your favorite snack from time to time. In fact, its the most helpful for the longevity of your life and for your personal happiness to include the things you love and enjoy or you will quit your diet all together. The secret is maintaining balance and have your indulgences only every now and then. Obesity is rampant because everything we want it right at our finger tips at a moments notice and the foods that taste the best happen to be the most addictive. Our health then depends on discipline. Have a day a week where you can enjoy all the bad foods you didn’t eat during the week. It’s also helpful to find an activity to do instead of indulging especially if you have a specific goal you want to achieve by a certain date. Never deprive yourself but you’ll be much happier with a little discipline.

Sundays are great for rejuvenating yourself. It always feels like a new start to create something for a new week. I guess I don’t have to tell you that time goes by incredibly fast! As monday creeps its way in at light speed, take your time. Enjoy every moment and simply appreciate the little things that make you smile. Sometimes I am awed at the little moments that leave their lasting impressions on me and when we move too fast, we miss them. Happy Week and enjoy every sweet gift the universe shares with you.

Snowy Yoga

It ended up being a snowy day in Connecticut. I traveled there to teach a full day of classes, clients and give a few massages. Many classes were canceled, though tons of devoted students braved the elements to come see us at the studio. It just felt better for us to keep everyone safe at home drinking their hot chocolate by the fire. (maybe tomorrow I’ll do that too!)

When plans are disrupted it’s so easy to get flustered, upset, or discombobulated. Really though I’ve discovered that everything works out the way it should. It was a lovely day and even though it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, it was better! Part of life is experiencing what happens around you without letting it disturb your personal peace and only then can you enjoy your every moment.

I get paid for what?!

It was late after a long wonderful day and I sat in front of a fire at a friends house. I watched the embers burn dazed in my zen zone warm, happy and smiling. I give my classes, students and clients everything I’ve got so even though I was a little tired, I felt fulfilled! This is what I was put on the planet to do. It feels really good to get up, go to a studio or a clients home and do my job, which is to make everyone feel good. Feels so good in fact that I almost feel guilty taking money for it.

We all have to make sacrifices for the things we love and for the things we want but since we spend so much time of our lives working why not get some enjoyment out of it, right? What would you do if you could do anything? Its ok to not know, and sometimes the journey to find out leads you to very place you need to be. Every job I’ve ever had has led me to the very spot I am in right now. I never would have guessed at the time that being a pool operator or a lifeguard would help me teach people about fitness. Without a single piece of my life puzzle I would be wanting of a skill I need today. Ultimately I have decided to enjoy the journey of exploring myself, doing what makes me happy day by day. I hope you too find every day an exciting adventure to discover yourself.
